Straight out of the box color me impressed! What a lovely travel chess set. Shoot. This will actually become my families primary use chess board. We have several collectors chess sets. You know, the kind that have pieces that are very beautiful but difficult to figure out which is which, right? So any chess loving family needs a simple board that is just for playing with without the hassle of the pieces being too ambiguous. We had a glass set, but apparently my daughters had a really heated chess match and some of the pieces ended up broken. Its been a long time since the incident and i think they have learned their lesson by now. I am so grateful we have such a nice replacement set! The wood on this is solid smooth and stunning. They really put the work into this finish. The magnetic hold of the pieces to the board is sufficient enough to hold the pieces to it upside down. I feel it is important to mention that the pieces are also solid wood. The latches are decent quality and easy to use. The foam inserts inside of the board for housing the chess pieces is even a nice durable foam. This is a great set!

Really nice chess set. I’m not a pro player — we got this to teach our son how to play — so it hits the right balance of looking good, feeling quality, without breaking the bank.
