The poles have to go together in a specific order, and there are no instructions, but it wasn't too hard to figure it out. The bottom pole has a spike at the end to push into the ground. The set also comes with a 3 x 5' flag that also says "Firewood". This flag has ties on the corners to facilitate hanging.
