Description
A celebration of the skiing lifestyle on and off the slopes, in a gorgeous must-have package—including dazzling stained edges! Skiing is more than just a sport. It's a lifestyle. A way of life. Après-ski typically refers to the time of day right after skiing, but can extend into the evening and early morning hours. It's cocktails enjoyed at the famed Palace Hotel ice rink bar in St. Moritz, and a game of snow polo in Aspen; a dip in the Manza Onsen (one of Japan’s highest-altitude hot springs) and dancing on tables at La Folie Douce in Val d’Isère, France. Traditions vary by region and even by neighboring resort. No matter where or how you unwind after a day on the mountain, what happens around the actual skiing has helped shape the culture of the sport for decades. This book is a visual celebration of all things après-ski: the best spots to visit around the globe, a survey of the fashion and style of ski, and even food and drink recipes for the quintessential après–ski menu.

Visually intoxicating celebration of winter’s most social sport!
Après Ski — The Scene, The Style, The Menu is an immersive, visually sumptuous celebration that hooks you immediately by framing skiing as a cultural return to normalcy after the world wars. The book’s photography—archival and contemporary—both captivates the imagination and instructs, illustrating foundational elements like clothing, gear, settings and the warm camaraderie of slope-side life. Layout and pacing are tactile: page-to-page transitions feel like stepping through history, moving smoothly from early ski clubs and wartime influences to changing silhouettes, equipment and social rituals. Running quietly through the narrative is the author’s clothing label, tastefully integrated so that garments serve the history and style rather than interrupt them. The writing balances practical detail (boots, bindings, menus and etiquette) with broader cultural context—fashion shifts, world events and the sport’s aspirational pull—so that the book ultimately thrills by braiding together style, history, practicality and the simple, irresistible fun of being in the snow.

Beautiful photo book, nice for a coffee table
This book has so many interesting photos, mostly about the fashion of ski and chalet life, but also showing photos of celebrities and royalty on the slopes. My favorite photo was Louis Armstrong and his wife in Switzerland in a sleigh with furs, and on the following page, The Beatles on a sled. There are some shareable recipes in the back, many of which would be ideal for a dinner party. I wish the book had been wrapped in plastic, because it arrived dirty and part of the ink wore off when I tried to wipe the cover clean. Overall, I really enjoyed this, and others visiting my house around the holidays have enjoyed reading it too.

Stunning book
This book is absolutely stunning both inside and out. It will upgrade any home. But also the writing and thoughtful selection of imagery it offers is lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and can’t wait to show it off to houseguests.
