Accurate BP monitor for home use
This is a great home blood pressure monitor. It is similar in design to the kind you would see in a drug store or big box store. You know the type, you put some money in, sit in a chair, stick your arm in the cuff and press the button. I have never used this type of machine, but I have seen people using them. It seems to me it is a good way for a person to take their blood pressure without having to have someone help them put the cuff on correctly or get it tight enough to read properly. This blood pressure monitor needs to sit on a sturdy, vibration-free tabletop. It has a fixed arm barrel you slip your arm into. There is a button to rest your elbow on, and that signals to the machine that your arm is in the correct position. There is a large, backlit screen that displays your blood pressure and pulse. There is a memory function that allows you to store up to 100 readings, which is very handy so you can compare with previous readings. The machine comes with a power cable for charging. While it is charging, a symbol will display on the screen. Personally I'd prefer a regular wall plug, but this does mean it's cordless and you can move it around to where you like without needing to consider outlet locations. Before you order this machine, you may want to check the size against the space where you plan on storing it. It is large. It came in a huge box and has a rather large footprint. The armrest and arm barrel do fold up when not in use, and this does reduce it in size somewhat, but storage may be a problem for someone without a lot of extra space. I also found the programming to not be particularly user friendly. However, once I got it set up the way I wanted it, it was easy to use. The instructions that come with the machine give some excellent pointers on how to successfully take your blood pressure and get consistently accurate readings. Having used a lot of different types of blood pressure cuffs over the years, I found this one to be slightly different. Most machines will, once you start them, pump up and continue until it stops and gives you your blood pressure. This machine pumps up slightly and then stops. I believe it does this to make sure that your arm is in the correct position. Once it establishes that, it pumps up to its maximum and then displays your reading. This means it takes a little longer to do the reading, but we're only talking about seconds here, not minutes. The whole process is pretty quick. Another handy feature is an emergency stop button on the side. If, for some reason, it pumps up too high, you can hit the button, and it immediately stops. The instruction book is very comprehensive. It has a list of error codes you might encounter, and has a comprehensive list of all of the machine’s functions and a troubleshooting guide. I have tested this machine against another home monitoring system that actually sends information, via Bluetooth, to a monitoring company. So far, both devices have been within a few points of each other. That makes me think that this machine is accurate and trustworthy. It makes good sense to monitor your blood pressure, especially if you have any concerning health conditions. However, you need to be doing it with a device that is accurate. I think this is an excellent device. My only drawback is the size and the cost. If you have a place to store it, and can afford to have a high end home blood pressure monitor, I think it is a wise investment.
