Customer reviews

Great value, high quality critter house (Pros/Cons w/ other Cozy Cottage)
Lovely, beautiful, as detailed and high quality as we've come to expect from Calico Critters and an EXCELLENT value for the price (most other CC sets are much pricier... so this is how they hook you LOL!). I'll compare this to the other Cozy Cottage which looks very similar. In my side-by-side images, this new version is on the left and other version on the right. Comparison PROS: New one has mailbox, beautiful curved railings, an interactive stove ("water" comes out of faucet, and a pie "bakes" in the oven by flipping over when inserted), it comes with a few extra accessories, and has a more practical ladder. Comparison CONS: Windows on the new one are plain, without shutters (there are SUPER cool interactive windows on the older one); the furniture in the new one is thinner, cheaper-looking, less detailed, & a bit too "pinkish" compared to the older one (and bed has no mattress/pillow). I don't like the fork with the handle in the new one, but kids may enjoy that feature. NEUTRAL differences: New one has red walls on second floor compared to beige; door styles are different; color of the brown trim/railings/doors is slightly lighter on new house Both houses have the exact same Freya Chocolate bunny sister with identical outfits, and the base mold for both nearly identical. Both are VERY durable, excellent quality, and will last forever. Obviously I have both houses, and I like the subtle differences, so we can have both in our display. I like that all the Red Roof themed homes are inter-connectible and match each other. Personally I think both houses are equally wonderful, and the downgrades on the new house are outweighed by its upgrades (the mailbox and railings, specifically).

IT'S NOT PINK
There are a lot of other things to like about the Calico Critters dollhouse and accessories, including the modular expansion options, the range of little details and the dolls themselves, as well as comparative affordability, good design, and small size (if that's what you want or need, which I did). But I think the top of my list is that it isn't purple or pink, and has no hearts or sparkles. I'm a play therapist, and dolls are an awesome play tool. But there are already enough obstacles for boys to be willing to play with dolls as it is, without color-coding them for girls. It was really important to me to find something more neutral and accessible, and this dollhouse is not only not gender-coded, it's also quite handsome. It's not perfect. Bits of it are fiddly. The second-floor room that opens onto the balcony is too shallow to put furniture in properly and comes off the base much too easily. I finally just stuck it in place with clear packing tape because it kept getting knocked off. Additionally, I feel that if you're going to have a house with a hinge down the middle - which I like - you may as well go the extra step of making it genuinely portable by providing a latch that will hold it closed and some sort of carrying handle. But I'm really happy with it - and out of all the toys I have, it was this dollhouse that the four-year-old boy I saw last week wanted to play with most.

Lovely interactive house!!
First off, THE FAMILY IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE HOUSE. Only the red bunny is. The family is MINE. Okay, on to the house. It’s beautiful and sturdy. I just didn’t like how they used 3 boxes to package it. Anyway, everything works and nothing came broken. There are 4 spots to put the balcony, but the ladder only has one from what I saw. My only qualm is that the top floor wiggles a bit. The top floor’s roof has a spot to put a Calico Critter house light, if you use those. For the furniture, I enjoyed all of it. The kitchen cabinets open and the faucet turns on. If you put the lasagna pie thing in the oven, it flips it when you open it again, as if it was baked. The fork is easy to use, and the accessories are small (potential choking hazard) but well made. Overall, I’m enjoying the house. As a young adult who wanted to collect these and de-stress, I’m happy. Though, I’d suggest buying separate furniture if you want a more decorated house.

Birthday hit - Worth every penny!
I got this for my 4-year-old’s birthday, and she absolutely loves it! The playroom is adorable, well-made, and fits perfectly with her Calico Critters collection. She spends a lot of time setting up and playing with it, and it sparks so much imaginative play. Great quality, worth the price and a perfect gift for any little Calico Critters fan!
