Impressive
Just a quick update May2026: used the headlamp all winter in the cold and dark. Cold didn’t seem to have any impact on battery life or overall performance. Beam is strong and cuts through steam/evaporating & misting materials. Have had to use as a flashlight a few times. The magnetic mount and the quick connect/disconnect from the headband performed well. Beam focusing and mode selection is simple and intuitive. Exceptional performance for the price and a great tool to have in the dark. Impressive so far. Have used for about 3 consecutive weeks. Very bright. With moderate/heavy on the low, medium and moonglow settings, and less use on the turbo setting, the battery indicated low once. Charged and working well. The power button is large and obvious making it easy to operate while wearing insulated gloves. It’s a touch heavy, and until broken in the ratcheting directional adjustment (up/down) is a little stiff. The beam could be a bit brighter when outdoors in the pitch black, but then this isn’t made specifically for that application. Overall a very good all around light and value for the price so far. So many product reviews tell you not to waste your money on “cheap” headlamps. It’s true. I’ve tried 3 other headlamps in the last year and none come close to this one. For the price of those lamps I could have purchased this from the outset and been content. The other lamps gave off light and while they did illuminate the area, the other lamps delivered more of a ‘light wash’ rather than a light beam like the coast. If the lamp continues to work well through the next few months, I’ll likely purchase more Coast products based on the performance of this headlamp so far.

The best headlamp I own.
This light changed my night hiking experience! This unit is extremely durable. As a Marine, this reminds me of milspec gear that I would use in the Corps. It has a very solid metal chassis and a great hand feel when unscrewing the caps or dialing in the light. It's also water proof or extremely water resistant, as I've used it in the rain several times without issue. Being able to adjust both the angle and the light coverage (narrow beam, area flood light, or something in between) is an absolute game changer. Couple that with a very positive feel as you adjust and dial in your preference and this thing simply rocks! It requires very little attention and becomes second nature. This thing lights up the area like it's daytime. The power button is extremely easy to find and use as well. It is a smidge heavier then some of my lightweight or ultralight headlamps (ie. Nitecore) but the battery life is phenomenal and the ease of use combined with the amount of light is top-notch. Finally, the rechargeable battery that is built in is awesome. Not only is there a USB-C recharge port on the unit that allows the battery to be recharged without taking it out but the battery itself can be removed and recharged also via USB-C. That also means you can have backup batteries, pre-charged that can be taken on a hike or camping trip. This thing's built to last and even though I was hesitant because the price point I'm extremely happy with the purchase!

I am pleasantly surprised at the quality and features. It’s easy to turn on/off, and cycle through the brightness levels. It initiates on medium which works great for me since I always use medium or high. For boost mode, you hold it down which I figured out without using it. I am using it to tattoo and the battery life is great, and I love that you can put in backup batteries in addition to the rechargeable battery. It’s comfortable enough to forget about.
