Customer reviews

Unfathomable customization in a minimalist package. This is a one-and-done bedroom upgrade
I'll use a word I've been saving for exactly the right review: unfathomable. That's the only word that does justice to what the this "machine" manages to pack into a single bedside unit. The numbers, since I actually did the math are insane. I had a suspicion of how rich it was when I saw a 40 page manual included with the unit. That right away made me take a step back and clear my head before proceeding. Between 26 sound options, 17 night light colors, 20 brightness levels, and a sunrise timer you can set anywhere from 5 to 60 minutes, this thing generates somewhere in the neighborhood of +100,000 possible configurations. YES, One hundred thousand. I did a quick back of the napkin calculation and had to double check it because the number seemed absurd. It's not. That's the real figure. And what that means in practical terms is equally simple, there is no version of you that won't find a perfect setting here. Light sensitive sleeper? Covered. Sound sensitive? Covered. Shares a room with someone on a different schedule? There's a combination for that too. The sunrise simulation is the centerpiece feature and it genuinely works. The light begins brightening gradually up to an hour before your alarm, mimicking the natural arc of a sunrise rather than snapping on like a switch. Your body starts to stir naturally, pulling you out of deeper sleep stages before the alarm ever sounds. On the mornings I've let it do its full cycle, I've woken up before the alarm went off entirely, which, if you've ever experienced that, you know is a completely different feeling than being startled awake. Pair that with one of the 26 sounds you can rotate between (rain, ocean waves, and classic white noise depending on your mood) and the sleep environment this thing creates is genuinely impressive. These aren't low quality audio loops that become grating after five minutes. They're well produced, immersive soundscapes that fade into the background the way good ambient sound should. The night light deserves its own mention. 17 color options with 20 adjustable brightness levels means this doubles as a legitimately useful ambient light for the bedroom. Reading light, dim nighttime navigation, mood setting, you name it this can handle it. The warm tones in particular are excellent for winding down before sleep without the harsh blue light that wrecks your melatonin. I've started using it as a reading lamp and haven't looked back. The Design takes a win as well. Minimalist on the outside, loaded on the inside. This is where this unit really surprises. It doesn't look like a feature loaded gadget. The clean, modern aesthetic would fit comfortably in a high end room or a carefully curated bedroom. No cluttered display, no excessive buttons, no "budget tech" feel whatsoever. The physical rotary dial and clearly labeled buttons mean zero app dependency. Everything is intuitive from the first minute you use it. The built in speaker rounds out the package nicely. It's not going to replace a dedicated speaker, but for bedtime podcasts, audiobooks, or light music it's more than adequate and saves you one more device on the nightstand. Bottom line: This is the rare purchase where you buy it once, dial in your perfect configuration, and stop thinking about it forever. For anyone who has ever felt like their sleep environment wasn't quite right, because it's too bright, too loud, too jarring in the morning, this unit gives you enough control to fix all of it. Minimalist in looks, unfathomable in capability. Highly, highly recommended.

My new way to wake up
I've seen sunrise alarm clocks for years and had heard good things about them so when I came across this one I decided to take a chance on it. I normally use my phone as my alarm clock so I haven't used a traditional type alarm clock in literally years, I can't even remember the last time in fact. Based on that I figured this would take some getting used to, turns out I was wrong and from day one I liked it better than waking up using my phone. The first thing I appreciated about this alarm clock is the number of sounds you can choose from as your alarm or to fall asleep to. There are 26 different sounds ranging from traditional white noise to varying nature sounds. For my alarm clock I chose the typical morning sound of birds chirping, for sleeping the white noise is what I was used to so I went with that. The second thing I really liked was how easy it is to set everything up. Setting the time is as easy as pushing a button and turning the knob to cycle through hours and minutes. The alarm clock was just as simple, hold down the alarm clock button until the time changes and set your alarm clock time. You can choose your alarm clock sounds by turning the selection knob after setting the time, you also can select the brightness level of the sunrise feature along with the snooze time if you want one. The directions are simple and straight forward so configuring this clock is very easy and shouldn't be a problem for anyone. The clock has a night light feature along with being able to connect via blue tooth and use it as an external speaker. I didn't personally use these features but I did test them out initially and everything worked as expected. The speaker actually sounds pretty good for an alarm clock, I didn't expect much but the nature sounds ended up sounding pretty and came through clear. In fact, the first day I used it my wife thought there were birds sitting outside our windows in the bedroom chirping. It took her a bit to figure out that it was coming from the alarm clock and not actual birds chirping outside. The sunrise feature was nice to wake up to and the light gradually gets brighter as you get closer to the actual alarm time that you set. There's a countdown timer that allows you to set the time that the light takes to get to gradually get to full brightness so you can set how fast or slow the sunrise will brighten. There are 20 different levels of brightness and level 20 is plenty bright, I went with full brightness at the peak level and that was fine for me. Those that are more sensitive to bright light may want to set the level lower so it's nice to have so many options built into each feature. All in all this sunrise alarm clock has nice features with different settings you can change to your personal liking. After using it for a while I can't imagine going back to using my phone as my alarm clock. This felt like a much more natural and nicer way to wake up, which is what you expect from a sunrise alarm clock anyway. If you're looking for a more natural and gradual way to wake up then I recommend you give this one a try. For the amount of features you get along with the customizable settings I don't think you can go wrong for the price.

This Sunrise Clock Makes Me Happy!
I've never tried a "sunrise" alarm clock before, but my daughter has been talking about getting one, so when I saw this, I decided to order it. My first impression was: this clock is BIG! It is much larger than I expected—slightly bigger than my hand when I place my entire palm over the front of it. At first, I thought the size might be a negative, but once I placed it on my night table, I realized the design actually adds warmth to my bedroom and makes a nice statement. The front has a lovely linen-like finish, and the rounded shape of the clock feels soft and soothing. It has the look of a much more expensive sunrise clock, and I find this particular one more attractive than others I'd considered. I usually wake up early on my own without an alarm anyhow, but I wanted to experience how this worked, and I am surprised at how energized I felt when it went gently wakes me with the dim-to-full amber light that resembles the color of the sun as it rises. It feels like I wake up naturally instead of being abruptly jolted out of sleep. At night, I use the red light feature, which has replaced the separate red light I previously kept on my night table. It's a great addition and makes the clock useful beyond just waking me up. And the rest of the "light show" is just WOW! I didn't realize how many options and colors there are. The LED is amazing! And when you use the sound features, the lights flow with in beat of the sounds. I really love the different color options, fades, and light modes. It's very pretty to set one of the light modes to "on" at night and when I walk in my room, I like the lightshow in the dark before I go to sleep and I sometimes put it on a sleep timer. I previously ordered a clock with numbers that lit with a very blue cast, and I was disappointed by the color of the light. The display on this clock is a very pleasing soft white. It illuminates nicely, and I love that there are three brightness levels so I can adjust them depending on the time of day. A nice "plus" is that this came with both a USB cord AND a charging block (lately I find it rare for an electronic to come with a block). The only slight negatives are the speaker quality and the sounds. I say "slight" because those features were not what attracted me to this clock in the first place. The speaker sounds a little tinny, and the sounds are a bit more electronic than natural or soothing. If sound quality is important to you, this is something to consider. For me, it doesn't take away from the experience because that wasn't why I purchased it. Another small negative is that it is a little complicated to set up. The instruction manual is very clear, but there are so many features that in order to know how to use them all, you really do need to read it cover-to-cover. I say "slight" negative, because although it takes time to read the manual, I'm happy for all of the features it has. As far as the cost, it is not quite a bargain, but certainly not nearly as expensive as some of its cousins. To me, it is just about at the right price point. I'm really quite pleased with this clock. It looks beautiful, and makes me happy!

The clock display is ludicrously bright out of the box
If you are not familiar with Amazon Vine, it is basically Amazon trading free* products for honest reviews. I do my best to make my reviews honest, real and value-oriented as if I had paid for each item I receive. * These items are not totally free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. I only mention this because we Viners do have some skin in the game for each item we order. Why I ordered this item: I have a hard time waking up in the morning. I've tried several alarm clocks over the years and most of them just startle me awake and I spend the first ten minutes of my day feeling like garbage. I wanted something that would ease me into being conscious. Likes: * The sunrise simulation is the main event here and it works. I set it to start brightening about thirty minutes before my alarm and by the time the alarm goes off, the room is noticeably lit up. Waking up to light instead of a blaring noise is a totally different experience. * The linen exterior is snazzy. It looks way more like a home decor item than an alarm clock. * There are a crazy good number of sound options. I've been cycling through them and I've landed on a rain sound that I really like. The speaker is loud enough to fill my bedroom without cranking it. * The controls are physical buttons and a rotary dial. No app, no pairing your phone, no screwy setup process. I had this thing configured in maybe five minutes. No likes: * The clock display is bright. Like, ludicrous levels of bright on the default setting. I had to dig into the brightness settings right away because it was lighting up my whole room. Good that it's adjustable, but it should default lower. * It plugs into the wall only. There's no battery backup, so if the power goes out your alarm goes with it. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes Final thoughts: It's got a sunrise light, white noise, and a speaker all crammed into one linen-wrapped little unit that actually looks good on a nightstand. The light simulation is the real deal. Just go into the display brightness settings immediately out of the box.
