Fastens from outside bottom!!
Not gonna lie .. I bought this (nearly) entirely because you fasten a mount from the bottom. Why isn't that standard on ALL tripods? This is the first tripod I've ever seen (no less bought) that arrives in 2 pieces. No big deal. Just slide the rod through the other piece..fasten the bolt to the bottom (the bolt is in the bag with the instructions,btw) and that's it. Size is about 20" compact/folded and max height is 62". Seems quite stable even on carpet..no idea how this will work outside but seems it should do ok. Honestly though..if you're tired of screwing on mounts (phone,camera,light,mic,etc) and it is ALWAYS tightened in a way that is NOT desireable..buy this tripod. You tighten the screw from the outside around the base (yea yea..; ) but anyways I'm VERY happy with my purchase (I bought 2 of them). For its category (compact/travel) it can't easily be beat..especially since you adjust tighteness from outside. Maybe this isn't a big deal for you right now..but I guarantee you'll soon see how awesome that simple feature is. Again..why is this NOT standard? Anyways...

Bought this as a projector tripod and it works perfectly. The bottom piece is a little flimsy but it works for the price. It’s pretty sturdy all things considered. It works pretty well on my camera too.
