Excellent option
WE bought this bucket to replace the one we have had for years, which finally sprung a leak. The lid liner does a great job of keeping the smells inside the container. If, in 6 months you start smelling things (especially if you have cleaned the filter), then you can buy replacements for the liner and keep going. Yes, you may get maggots inside--that means (especially during the summer) that the fruit or veg you put in there had already been used for laying eggs. The fact they are in your compost bin and not all over your counter and kitchen area means the bin is working. Only negative, if this bugs you, is that it does get water spots--in my case, from being too close to the sink. It doesn't bother me hence the five starts, but the photo shows how it looks after about a week of dishwashing with semi-hard water nearby. It does wipe clean. Highly recommend. We have had the new one for several weeks now and it works well. The lid comes off easily, but the smells don't. The handle makes it simple to take it out to our compost pile and upend it. The size is large enough to take quite a few scraps, but not so big as to encourage us to not go out regularly and dump before things start growing or decomposing too much.

Super solid for the price
Been using it for about a week for the pulp from my daily juicing. It's a much heavier and more solid feeling metal bin than I was expecting. I read reviews for other ones that were described as flimsy and thin and this was the cheapest one I could find at the time for about $20 on sale so I wasn't expecting much, but was very impressed. The lid is also quite heavy so nothing is slipping under it, adding a compost bag makes for a better seal. The lid also has two spots for filters, one at the top where the holes are and one at the bottom, both pre-installed with filters to really keep compost smells from getting through. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, but we'll see how well it actually does at composting.
