Beautiful tile-laying game with simple rules and strong visual appeal
The Fountains Board Game is a visually striking and easy-to-learn tile-laying strategy game that stands out immediately for its art style and table presence. The Art Nouveau design is beautiful, and once the fountain starts building in 3D, it really becomes the centerpiece of the table. Gameplay is straightforward to teach, even for players who aren’t heavy board gamers. On your turn, you’re drafting and placing tiles to build out your fountain while trying to optimize scoring opportunities. There’s enough strategy to keep it engaging, but it still stays approachable and family-friendly. I especially like the 3D stacking element — it adds a nice tactile and visual layer that makes the game feel more dynamic than a standard flat tile-laying game. It also works well at different player counts, which makes it flexible for both small and larger groups. The playtime is reasonable, typically around 30–45 minutes, which makes it easy to get to the table without feeling like a long commitment. If I had to point out a downside, it’s that experienced strategy gamers may find the mechanics a bit lighter compared to more complex tile-laying games. However, that also makes it very accessible and relaxing to play. Overall, this is a great choice for families or casual gamers who want something that looks beautiful on the table and offers just enough strategy to stay interesting without being overwhelming.

Clever Design
I picked it up because I love tile-laying games and solo puzzles — and this one instantly pulled me in. You draft odd-shaped foam tiles and stack them into a fountain, trying to balance spread and height for points. It feels like Akropolis, but calmer and more tactile. What I love The tactile elements and table presence are great. The color palette (terracotta and blue) makes it feel peaceful, like building a tiny water garden. Solo mode works beautifully for when you just want a quiet puzzle. Turns are fast and simple, but still leave room for smart choices. The publisher sponsored Watch It Played to teach the game, and I love Rodney Smith’s teaching style — it’s a huge help to learn the game. What I like less The theme is mostly decorative — it’s more puzzle than story. Summary A relaxing, hands-on puzzle with a satisfying build and real visual charm. If you like Akropolis, Cascadia, or any game that scratches that “just one more turn” itch, Fountains fits right in.

Fun game with a unique game play!
We love this game! We have played it with our adult children and grandchildren over the age of ten. It took a little time for the 10 year old to learn it but she actually did great a few turns into the game. The pieces designed to look like different fountains for tracking the individual scores look muddy and are difficult to see so my husband 3D printed some better pieces. We have purchased the game as a gift for others.

Beautiful and Tactile Family Game
Fountains is such a fun and relaxing game! I really love the foam pieces — they feel great to handle and add a unique 3D element that makes the table presence so pretty. The fountains really pop as you build them, and it’s satisfying to see everything come together. It’s easy to learn but has enough strategy to stay interesting. Definitely a standout on game night.
