Mind is blown. This story is EVERYTHING.
I'm told this was S. Walden's debut. I should probably be shocked that this was ANYONE'S debut, since the writing is THAT amazing. But I'm not surprised. Having come to adore her stories and her brilliant writing in her other stories, I'd only be surprised if a book with her name on it was anything less than phenomenal. Her writing is superior, her story telling unbelievable. She was born to write, a gift to readers. I don't think I can say anything about Hoodie that will do this story justice. It's unlike anything I've ever read. Anton is a street smart, black teenager living in the projects with his single mother. Emma is a privileged, booksmart yet naive, white teenager living with her well off parents in the wealthy part of town. The two are thrown together to write a paper on learning about each other's cultures. But what they come to find in each other is so much more than they bargained for. The writing in this story is amazing. Somewhere inside S. Walden lives a black teenager. The way she crafted the dialogue in this story, perfecting the dialect of Anton and his friends, my mind is blown. There's nothing I can say, I have no words, you just need to read this book. This is a beautiful story of friendship and love. It's so much more than black vs white, wealth vs poverty, privilege vs struggle... it's also not the cliche story of overcoming those boundaries and finding a happily ever after. This story is humor and heartbreak, hope and despair, love and hate. This story is EVERYTHING.

Bittersweet
One of the best books I've read in a while. A well-written, well-developed story about young love and the challenges of dating not only outside one's race but also one's social status. I loved the characters, loved the openness of Anton in the way he's not afraid to admit or show his feelings. Someone mentioned that this book highlights the stereotypes of the African-American male but I beg to defer. This young man wasn't in a gang, he did not come from a bad home, he believed in and sort God, he didn't do drugs, he went to school, and he did not conform to the beliefs of his friend even though he was put in a position where he was expected to, especially at that age. I'm not disappointed with this story and even though the ending wasn't what I expected I will recommend you read this book. I still feel like crying over the way things turned out :(

LOVED The Story
I really, really enjoyed reading Hoodie. It was really fast paced )all the events go day by day) and I just could not put it down. If you are looking for a NA romance that breaks the typical mold then this is definitely a good read. A modern day story about interracial love, breaking stereotypes and growing up. My only complaint is the ending. I mean WTF? SPOILER ALERT: The story ends on a sad, disturbing note for NO FREAKING REASON! It was like the author was having a bad day and decided to end it with a depressing Epilogue which takes away from the beauty of the story. I am still giving it 5 stars because I really enjoyed it, even if the ending did leave a bad taste in my mouth.

great read
Great book, Great story, great characters. I absoultly loved this book and the characters were so in love that it was perfect. until the drama but we all need a little drama. hiding their love not knowing what people would think but love defies all. this book is about breaking the barriers and stepping out of your comfort zone long enough to see that love has no barrier or preferance. what i read in this book was true lasting love and the ending killed me, just slautered me. I was shocked at the ending you could tell the love was still there. all in all an awesome book. very worth the read.
