Wish I'd bought this years ago!
Wow, does the plate get hot! And it stays hot when it's on, whether or not there's anything on the plate, so don't walk away from it. I'm sure it would melt candles, not just warm them—which, if you look into the danger of the fragrance you might just stop burning scented candles anyway. Just simmer a stick of cinnamon and some cloves on your stove. All natural and no harm. Or! You could put half a cinnamon stick and a couple of cloves in water in a ceramic mug on this warmer thing and keep it natural. Same with orange or lemon peels. Having said that, I'm keeping this and happily using it because it does what I want it to do: keeps my beverage nice and hot. I tried using my stainless steel mug but it didn't seem to work well. My ceramic mugs work perfectly. The infrared thermometer says my tea is 133 degrees F. I really really like this warmer! Allows me to leisurely sip my coffee and each sip is the right temperature. I marked the on/off switch with a sharpie; the warmer has a small red light that you might not notice if it's turned away from view.

Great Mug & Candle Warmer with Real Button Control
Quick Take: This warmer does exactly what I needed. It heats quickly, works great for preheating espresso cups, and doubles as a solid candle warmer. —— What I Like: ✓ Heats up quickly and consistently ✓ Real on/off button (works well with smart plugs) ✓ Large heating surface fits different cup sizes ✓ Indicator light shows when it’s on ✓ Easy to wipe clean —— What Could Be Better: → Plastic sides and plate feel a bit thin, long-term durability is unknown → It needs an automatic shut-off —— Final Thoughts: I have this connected to an Alexa-enabled plug so I can preheat my espresso cup before pulling a shot, which helps keep the temperature up. That’s why the physical button matters. Touch controls wouldn’t work for this setup. I also use it daily as a candle warmer for a cleaner way to get fragrance without a flame. So far it’s been reliable and does both jobs well. If you want a simple, functional warmer with a real button, this is a great option. Great gift idea as well.

Great choice
I considered several options to keep my coffee hot while I am working, and I am very happy I decided on this warmer plate. It has no extras, just a toggle switch to turn it off and on. This switch was not labeled, but a Sharpie marker fixed that. Even without a label, it is clear when it is on because the red light comes on. The temperature cannot be adjusted, but it keeps my coffee hot without causing it to taste burnt or becoming dangerously hot. The bottom of my coffee cup DOES get very hot! This is to be expected, but if you are used to touching the bottom of your mug, you could be burned. I did use a trivet under the warmer plate because the bottom of it does get pretty hot. For my purposes (hot coffee) this was exactly what I wanted. I have been using it for about 1 month with no problems.

Perfect!
The appearance is “modern” looking not bad. Very easy to use, just plug into the outlet and push the button. Starts warming almost immediately, I use for candles and I like how it melts fast and makes my house smell nice. Don’t do it to your home, but I gotta confess that I already forgot it on overnight and it still looked safe in the morning so I’d say it’s very reliable. Can be used to warm mugs or candles.
