Wanted a full size Kaweco to replace my Sport and Pilot Varsity - Does it? Hmmmm
Fountain pens have been really odd for me. A bizarre mix of love and hate. It is shocking to me how many expensive pens come out of the box and simply won't write. They are dry and scratch and/or even worse . . . hard starts - meaning they are just infuriating. Also strange . . . how is it these expensive pens give me grief so often but a super cheap Pilot Varsity works EVERY SINGLE TIME. I feel like I have gone through 100 and they ALWAYS work and write beautifully. Makes no sense. One brand / pen that did work perfectly out of the box was my fun Kaweco Sport. Not an expensive one but not a throw away like the Varsity. I always wanted a Kaweco that was bigger and not a throw away pen. So I tried this one. IT WORKS! Writes really well, not a single hard stop! I'll add however, I wish it was just a little . . . nicer. The plastic doesn't feel as solid as the Sport. It has a click on cap instead of threads like the Sport. I would pay more if it offered a little more. Finally, the Fine (sorry about pun) nib is pretty fine. I will be curious to try the medium next. My handwriting is pretty sloppy so fine works well it just is a bit scratchier than the Medium Varsity I am used to. Yea I know I am going from Medium to Fine but it is a Japanese Medium. Anyway, that is all personal preference . . . I am going to give the Medium a shot. Good luck!

Feminine and Functional
Kaweco never fails to make attractive, fun and functional pens. I own several of their other models. This model has a cap that clicks into place rather than a screw on/off cap. I use cartridges and not loose ink with a converter for convenience. The cartridges are easy to insert, the barrel unscrews and a slight bit of pressure pops the cartridges into the pen. Unlike other pen brands you only need one or two squeezes to the cartridge to provide enough ink to start its flow and with a few pen strokes, you have ink. I am left handed and use fine point nibs. I don’t experience any scratching or roughness with this job. It writes very smooth and almost writes itself. The ink comes out evenly and does not leave splotches. The barrel is plastic and very lightweight. I have medium sized hands (size 7 glove) and find no issue with the balance or the taper to the nib in my grip. The color states cotton candy/grey, but this is a warm grey and pink. It is more of a peachy pink than cotton candy.

Kaweco makes solid pens
Kaweco makes excellent well designed pens. The only drawback for this pen is that it does not easily or effectively convert to a dropper fill, which some people like for every day pens. It is really light, a major plus for me! pens should make writing effortless, especially for extended use, and this one can barely be felt. Another minor quibble is the wide fine. I assume the wider fine makes it more durable, but the Perkeo fine nib is lays a wider line than the classic Sport does, which is the best fine-nib pen I have ever tried. This can also vary depending on the ink used. Black inks do allow a thiner line, but the pen lays a wetter line than most fine line pens, and again, this may be to add comfort for daily writing. It is well worth the price, and if you're like me, will likely result in your buying more Kaweco fountain pens.
