This 3 in one bamboo board offers the perfect combination of size and versatile use. With 2 detachable compartments plus an extra servzng tray. It even comes with a knife drawer perfect for transport. The build: This unit is build with bamboo wood and offers a sleek modern design. You can tell it's real wood just buy the smell when you open the box. Each compartment slides in and out on small grooves. Not the most fluid experience, yet it feels more authentic and organic. The tung and groove system needs a bit of braking into. Since it does have a tendency to snag a bit. Except for that caveat the craftsmanship is on point. All edges are smooth, the finish is lovely and once compact it fits together nicely. Another lovely detail is the real ceramic trays that come with the product. Perfect for adding dips hot or cold. They are nicely glazed and feel robust with good weight. The knife set is also lovely with matching handles and each blade is of good thickness. I have been swapping a lot of my plastic kitchen items out for bamboo versions and have been learning how to care for bamboo. That is how I learned about the importance of food grade mineral oil and why it was no surprise when the instructions for this set say to use it. Here is a quick rundown of what I have learned: • Applying food grade mineral oil to wood is similar to seasoning a cast iron pan • It keeps the wood from drying out which helps prevent warping or splitting • Cover the whole item with oil, wipe off excess, and let it sit for about 24 hours • Repeat the process 1 to 2 more times until a drop of water placed on the surface does not soak in right away I like to be thorough so I did three coats of oil on this set and now it passes the water drop test. It also looks shiny and beautiful. The utensils that come in their own little drawer are adorable and useful. The tiny forks are my favourite part. I like to use the cutting board daily so I leave it out with my other boards. The rest of the set I keep in its box and only bring it out when I have company over, usually for a fruit and cheese platter. I always wash it by hand right after using it and occasionally apply the food grade mineral oil again. Do not put it in water to soak because that can cause splitting.
