How is the joy to see your son making is own volcano and enjoying it
The National Geographic Ultimate Volcano Kit has been a fantastic educational experience for my son and me! We had so much fun learning about volcanoes while creating our very own erupting volcanoes at home. This kit is a perfect combination of science and fun. It includes everything you need to create an erupting volcano, which helped my children understand how volcanoes work in a really engaging way. The instructions are clear, and the process is easy to follow, even for younger kids. Quality Materials: The materials included (like plaster, baking soda, and a safe, non-toxic volcano mold) are high-quality and make the entire experiment feel like a mini science project. The volcano is sturdy and can withstand multiple eruptions. Educational Content: The kit includes a small booklet with fun facts about volcanoes, how they form, and how eruptions occur. It’s educational without being too complicated, and my kids loved learning about real-life volcanoes.

Takes some work, messy but fun. Reusable.
This was fun. Very old school with Plaster of Paris. After it set (45 mins), I baked it for 2 hours at 200F to dry it before painting. Both grandparents and two grandkids (4 and 10) enjoyed this project. We look forward to more eruptions. The mold is reusable if you purchase more plaster (410g or 14.6oz plus 1 cup water. Not nearly enough black paint, the vial seemed half full. The paints are just tempera. You can’t buy extra eruption packs, tho. The kit's eruption powder is a mixture of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and citric acid, you add water. But - The instructions with the kit tell how you can easily replicate the eruption with baking soda and white vinegar or lemon juice. Add a few drops of red food coloring and some dish soap for a more realistic "lava" effect and better foam. Or try a single Mentos candy with some added soda pop. That can get very messy and sticky, unless you use diet soda. Try that outside, tho. Have fun!

Educational and Fun, but Be Prepared for a Mess!
I bought the National Geographic Volcano Making Kit for my daughter, and she absolutely loved it! The instructions were clear, and it was exciting to watch her engage with the science behind volcanic eruptions. The kit is both fun and educational, making it a great choice for kids who enjoy hands-on activities. That said, be sure to put the volcano on a baking sheet or other surface that’s easy to clean. The eruption process can get a little messy, with colored “lava” spilling over the sides. We didn’t think of this initially and had a bit of a cleanup on our hands. Lesson learned! Overall, I highly recommend this kit for kids—it’s a fantastic way to spark curiosity about science and geology. Just plan ahead for the mess, and you’ll have a blast!

Another explosive hit with the grandkids
Got this for my grandkids along with another science kit, and this one was just as big of a hit. They were so excited to make the volcano erupt, and it didn’t disappoint—plenty of fizz, fun, and messy excitement. It was easy enough for them to set up with just a little guidance, and the whole experience had them completely engaged. They’ve really gotten into these hands-on science kits, and this one kept the momentum going. They’re already asking for more like it, which says a lot. If your kids or grandkids are into anything that bubbles, explodes, or makes a mess while teaching them something cool, this is definitely one to grab.
