Wine Glasses for People Who Don't Believe in Tiny Pours
These quickly became my favorite wine glasses in the cabinet. The first thing you notice is the size. These are not tiny restaurant glasses where the server pours what appears to be three tablespoons of wine and calls it a serving. These have a large, generous bowl that gives the wine plenty of room to breathe and develop. The wide bowl is especially nice for red wines. Swirling is easy, and the shape does a great job of concentrating aromas. If you enjoy actually smelling your wine before tasting it, these glasses make a noticeable difference. Rich reds seem particularly well suited to this style of glass. The glasses are elegant without being overly delicate. They have a nice presence on the table and look more expensive than their price would suggest. Friends and guests have commented on them more than once, which isn't something that normally happens with glassware. The crystal-clear glass shows off the color of the wine beautifully, and the large capacity means you're not constantly getting up for refills. While I certainly wouldn't recommend filling them to the rim, it's amusing to realize that one glass can hold well over half a bottle of wine if you really wanted to commit to an evening.
