Relaxing and Fun Color by Numbers Activity with Posca's Quality

I’m a big fan of this Posca paint-by-number canvas set. First and foremost, it comes with two canvases and a coordinated set of Posca markers built around a specific color theme. In this version, the canvases have a water-inspired theme. One of the canvases is an ocean landscape — not really a beach scene, but more like the view from Cape Cod. The second canvas is a still life, featuring seashells, kelp, and other ocean motifs. I wouldn’t describe this set as particularly feminine or masculine — it reads as very gender-neutral. The color palette is built entirely around shades of blue, and it’s a really beautiful range. You get very light blues, deeper navy tones, as well as teals and aquas. It feels full, balanced, and thoughtfully chosen, and it works extremely well with the subject matter. Each canvas is laid out with a numbered pattern, and each section corresponds to a specific Posca marker color. You simply fill in the sections, and at the end you’re left with a finished piece of art. Color-by-number isn’t everyone’s favorite format, but I personally enjoy it, and I really appreciate Posca for exploring this as an entry point into acrylic painting. It makes painting feel accessible, easy, and low-pressure. Coloring and paint-by-number projects are known to reduce stress and anxiety, help with hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills, and provide a relaxing, screen-free activity. I also love that the set includes two canvases — you can do both yourself, or turn it into a shared activity with a friend, partner, or family member. The canvases themselves are fairly simple. I wouldn’t say they’re the highest-end canvases you’ll ever find, but they absolutely do the job and serve their purpose well for this type of project. One of the big perks of this set is that you’re getting actual Posca markers, not a throwaway paint supply. The set includes eight colors, all in the popular 5mm bullet tip size. That’s a great, versatile nib — useful not just for this project, but for all kinds of other art and coloring applications afterward. Once you finish the canvases, you’re left with a solid set of markers you can continue to use. As far as performance goes, Posca paint quality is exactly what you’d expect. You’ll likely need to apply a couple of layers to fully cover the numbers underneath, which is normal for acrylic markers. Because the paint has to flow through the nib, it’s not always 100% opaque in one pass — especially with lighter or softer colors — but Posca is known for good vibrancy and coverage, and these are no exception. If I had some feedback, it would be that I wish Posca had included brush tips in this set. While the design doesn’t have a lot of very tiny sections, which makes it approachable, brush nibs would have added more flexibility. They allow for softer edges, shading, and highlights, which can help bring more dimension to the finished piece. That said, this really comes down to personal preference and experience level. If you’re comfortable painting, you can absolutely achieve variation and depth with the bullet tips alone. Brush tips just offer more options, especially for people who want to push beyond the blocky, graphic look that paint-by-number projects naturally have. Also, the paint by number markings are a bit too dark. Having them be lighter, so they’re easier to cover with lighter marker colors would be better. Overall, I’m really happy with this set. It’s beautiful, fun, and relaxing, a great indoor activity whether you’re working on it solo or sharing the experience with someone else. It also makes a nice gateway into other paint-by-number projects, acrylic marker art, or coloring more generally. If you’re already a big colorer, this is a fun little project. And if you haven’t tried Posca markers before, it’s a great way to experience the brand without committing to a full open-stock set. Highly recommend if this kind of project appeals to you.

Trusted POSCA Quality Paired with Enjoyable Paint-by-Number Canvases

This set includes an 8-color blue-tone assortment of POSCA water-based pigment ink markers and two paint-by-number canvases, where you complete the artwork by filling in each numbered section with the designated color. POSCA markers use water-based pigment ink that does not easily bleed through paper. Once dry, the ink becomes water-resistant and does not smudge when exposed to moisture. You can layer colors on top of each other, and unlike oil-based markers, they have no strong solvent odor. They work on a wide variety of surfaces including wood, glass, and plastic, and become water-resistant after drying. POSCA has been widely used for decades by professional artists, street artists, and in educational settings, which speaks to its reliability and versatility. I have used POSCA markers for years to color craft materials such as book nooks. Because they are water-based, you can also mix colors to create intermediate shades. I do this by pressing the tip onto a palette (or disposable paper palette) to release some ink, then blending it with a brush. POSCA markers come in five tip sizes, from extra-fine to extra-broad chisel. This particular set features the medium round tip. The package states “1.8mm–2.5mm,” indicating that the reversible tip has two slightly different line widths. The nib can be removed with tweezers and flipped to use the other side. If the tip becomes dirty, it can be removed, rinsed with water, dried, and reinserted. Before first use, shake the marker up and down for about 20 times, until you hear the balls inside the pen. Then press the tip onto a scrap piece of paper, pumping it at about two presses per second until the nib compresses and becomes saturated with ink. This primes the tip and allows the marker to write smoothly. Some reviewers mentioned that the ink can drip. That is not entirely incorrect, but unless you press the tip down hard to force excess ink out, you do not need to worry about it dripping during normal use. The included canvases are printed with numbered designs. By coloring each section with the corresponding marker, you can complete the painting. Unlike traditional watercolor paints, POSCA ink is opaque enough to cover underlying colors, so you do not need to worry too much about the order in which you apply them. That said, starting with the background areas tends to give a cleaner result. Because these are actual canvases rather than paper, it really feels like you are painting as an artist. I completed both canvases and truly enjoyed the process. However, color number 2 (aqua green) is used extensively, and by the time I was finishing the second canvas, the ink was running low and becoming slightly streaky. Shaking the pen or letting it rest capped for a while helped somewhat, but my finished piece does show a little unevenness. POSCA markers are vibrant and genuinely fun to use. At $32, this set is not inexpensive, though slightly more affordable sets without the canvases are available. It is a bit disappointing that there are no additional numbered canvas designs available for this specific color set, but overall this is a product I would definitely recommend trying.

8 different shades of green posca markers AND two quality canvas color-by-numbers prints? Amazing!

I have a pre-teen son who has autism, is an amazing artist and adores posca markers, so I jumped at the chance to order this. He LOVES both the markers and the included color by number canvases and I am really pleased with how well made this kit really is! My kiddo has a pack of poscas in every size already which means he has the “regular size” (5 M?) the smaller ones (1m and 3m I think) and some really huge ones (17K size) all in basic colors like red, blue, green, black. We also have one set of like pastels where he has a lighter pastel version of a few colors. But he had no idea that posca made sets of markers that are all shades of 1 color like these ones are and yeah, these markers are his absolute favorite now! Only thing is he now wants to know if we can get a pack of posca markers like this for every color… eek! lol but joking aside we’re thrilled with how much these little paint markers encourage our son to grow his artistic talents. And I’ll be honest, I really only picked this for the markers as we’ve tried so many (non-posca) color, paint, sticker etc by numbers with him over the years and he’s never liked them much at all. But these ones come on actual canvas and that plus being made for his favorite medium - posca markers! - made a huge difference for him. Suddenly my kiddo who’s never made it past a few seconds through a color or paint by number, was actually working hard at one of the two included color by number canvases which truly shocked me! He did just about half of the first canvas when I gave this to him yesterday before pivoting to his own sketch pad and drawing his own creations but, the fact that he actually spent at least 5 minutes on a color by number and finished around half if it in one sitting is something I never thought I’d see! So I mean if you have a kiddo who loves posca markers, or enjoys color or paint by numbers that are not the really simple “little kid” ones but aren’t super complicated, made for adults only ones, either… they will love this. And if your kiddo has never used posca markers then oh my gosh you need to get some asap okay. They are paint markers but they are 10000x better than any others on the market, they make no mess at all when used with just a bit of care, they don’t leak or dry out as long as the caps are replaced after drawing, and IMO they’re perfect for kids 10 and up but many kids a little younger than that would do great with them too. But yes this set is awesome. We LOVE that you get an 8 pack of different shades of green and I was also incredibly impressed with the high quality canvas on which the two included color by numbers were printed. For budding artists in the 8-14 year old range this is sure to be a much loved gift. Hope this helps! :)

You can never go wrong with Posca markers. I bought this set to add more color variety to my collection, and I use them for all kinds of projects. The colors are vibrant, they last a long time, and the drying time is surprisingly quick. This is probably my favorite color set so far. I had a lot of fun with this project and even added my own little twist to it!
