does the job without blowing the circuit breaker
March 16, 2013 Update. We still love this pot. This has had heavy use; my husband must use it 8 times a day, every day. I've had it a year. The switch just broke. In my previous update that one lasted a year also. I still recommend it, but you should know that if you use it all day long it will last only about a year. I plan to buy another because it only uses ONLY 1000 watts, so it doesn't trip the circuit breaker and IS LIGHT WEIGHT, which is good if you have weak hands or wrists. ======================== Now I have had this pot a year. The on/off switch just broke. Nevertheless I am buying another because it has just the right size and function that I want. It is easy to fill and is lightweight, which is important if your hands are a bit weak with arthritis. It was used a lot so I guess one year of constant use is OK for the price. ==================================== I have had my electric kettle now for 4 months. I still love it and still have not noticed a plastic-like taste. This pot is used at least 7 times per day and it has held up well. We love it. PROS: 1. Automatic shut-off--a safety feature 2. Wattage low enough not to break the circuit breaker (it IS 1000 watts, though) 3. On-off switch 4. Detachable cord - Can unplug the electric wire from both the pot and the outlet 5. Economical price and usage 6. Quicker than the stove 7. Does not COMPLETELY shut off when kettle has no water. It shuts off then goes back on then shuts off repeatedly. (If you discover this you unplug it and wait 20 min. before refilling it.) Some pots do not actually shut down when empty. 8. Because it is plastic, the outside does not get overly hot to the touch (unless you keep touching it), a safety feature. CONS: 1. Small capacity (but easily refillable) 2. Does not keep the temperature hot (but heats rapidly at room temperature, and the ones that keep it hot may be expensive or have no automatic shut off, which is a must for safety) 3. Does not COMPLETELY shut off when kettle has no water. It shuts off then goes back on then shuts off repeatedly. (If you discover this you unplug it and wait 20 min. before refilling it.) Some pots do not actually shut down when empty. I gave this 5 stars because it does just what I need for the economical price. Only the very expensive pots have all good features. This tea kettle is simple in that it heats the water and automatically shuts off when the water comes to a rolling boil (when the bubbles get to be very large and rocket up from the bottom of the pot, breaking the surface vigorously moving the water). Keep the lid pushed tightly in when it is on for the shut-off to work. The sides do get hot to touch with my palm after 1 - 2 seconds just after a full boil. That is more than you would have with an uninsulated metal pot. If you have young children, they must be told not to touch just as you would not let them touch the sides of a stove top tea kettle. The directions are simple and come with the pot. Also, when it shuts off, for some reason the water stays pretty warm for awhile which is helpful for getting boiling water fast after an hour or so. What I also really like about this kettle is that it doesn't "blow a fuse" in case you have other electricity being used. It is small, but adequate. I like that. It does have a coil in the bottom so you have to use 1 1/2 C. water minimum. The cord is easily detachable. You will have to clean it with vinegar and water from time to time, but I also have to clean the tea kettle on my stove with vinegar and water. Boiling 1 L. of VERY COLD water took 7 min. My gas stove kettle took 9 minutes. A reviewer mentioned the "plastic" smell. It does very mildly exist, however, I use this for instant coffee and tea, and that totally does not affect me. I think anyone who is EXTREMELY sensitive to tastes in tea would be happier with a metal or, even better, a glass pot. However, the 3 typical users in my household do not detect any plastic flavor at all in our tea. You don't HAVE to wait for the water to fully boil to use it. You will hear the heated water before it comes to a rolling boil. For tea, especially delicate green and white ones, you should not even use fully boiling water; there are temperature guides on the internet. If you are on a financial or an electrical budget, this is an excellent pot. You must decide how much you want to spend. The kind of pots that are metal or glass and have a hidden coil cost a lot more, especially if you want them to keep the water hot whenever they are on.

Lasts forever—13 years & still going!
Amazon says I bought this in Feb 2009. That makes this item 13 years old at the time of this writing. It still works just as well as the day I bought it. This means I’ve used this at least 3-4x a day for 13 years. What I specifically like about this kettle is that it does NOT have a base that you set it on. I hate the idea of fumbling to find the notch to seat the kettle on a base. Plus the idea that dribbling water will get on the base seems like a bad idea. It heats quickly, has a little light when on, and automatically shuts off after a rolling boil. It is slightly smaller at 1L rather than 1.3 or 1.5 and I like it that way since I don’t usually need a full pot and I can more readily meet the “min” water level and since it’s smaller, I can get to get a quicker boil. Yes. It is entirely plastic except for the heating element which is metal. If you don’t mind that and you hate the ones with a base, you absolutely should buy this. For reference, I keep mine always plugged in (except for cleaning days) and I use a container to bring the water to the kettle, instead of bringing the kettle to the sink. I think this has contributed to extending the life of the product since I’m not always plugging and unplugging it. After 13 years, the only problem I have run into (just recently) is that when the cord is a little kinked, it won’t turn on so I have to make sure to unkink it. I plan to buy a replacement plug and keep on using this…Indefinitely. EDIT 2023–replacement cord purchased and it works beautifully.

Perfect. Still working after 6 Years
Love this kettle. I use it to heat water for tea, cooking, preparing food for hummingbirds, anything I would have used a stove top kettle for. The least efficient ways to boil water are on a stove (gas or electric). Most efficient are electric kettles and induction heaters. The last are limited to pots that a magnet grabs. When cooking soups, stews, chili, etc. I often need to add more water. I bring the water to a boil in this kettle to prevent cooling the pot. Cold water stops the cooking for a while. The quality is good, easy to pour, comfortable handle. It has an auto turn-off when the water is boiling fast. Twice I forgot water, and when I turned it on it immediately shut off before the elements got very hot. Minimum amount of water is about 12 ounces - required to prevent the elements from heating above the water. The maximum fillis 32 oz (1 liter), more the boiling water might splash out of the spout. I highly recommend this electric kettle to anyone who wants a simple, easy to use, reliable kettle to boil water in. And who wants to boil water much more energy efficiently stove tip kettles. Just don't cook food in it as it would be very hard to clean out, and food would get caked up on the heating elements. For the rare times I want a specific temperature I use an instant read thermometer that reaches into the water and lets me attain a desired water temperature.

Black Teapot - Blue 4 foot Power Cord = Happy Blues
I had come across one of these Teapot's in white back in 2019 that was in perfect shape and someone else was chucking it in the trash. I retrieved it and had it for 6 years. The one gripe I have is the cord that comes with Teapot is too short. I had obtained a 5 or 6 foot long cord for that white Teapot the last couple of years. Once I saw here on Amazon this Teapot Kettle is also available in black - I knew I wanted one in black. The white one or it's cord were starting to reach the end of their usefulness so I ordered this one in black right away. I knew I needed a cord with a bit more length to it and found a Cable Masters 4 foot cord in blue (there are additional colors available such red, florescent green, and black too) here on Amazon for around 8 dollars. Love the colors and 4 foot is just the perfect length. I grew very attatched to the white kettle and I am very glad that it is still made. Love it in the color Black even more. I use it to heat up water for coffee, tea, oatmeal, cups of ramen noodles. Sometimes I pour a little hot boiling water from the kettle onto the floor as I am cleaning it and mopping. Beautiful, Versatile, and exudes Simplicity. I have the happy blues with my Black Procter Silex Tea Kettle and it's blue power cord. Fabulous Product at a great price. 💙
