The best laptop support piece I've ever used, for multiple reasons.
Absolutely indispensable for me. I own about 8 of these and have them all over the house so that there is always one near at hand for my laptop. It helps to have small buckwheat cushions available, or a lap desk, to put on your lap when you use this. Of all the shapes, sizes, and designs of laptop risers - including the question 'is it better for the legs to be on the side, or for there to be a single bottom piece that rests on your legs' - this unit answers that question conclusively. This is the best design. - The bottom piece is just wide enough to balance and stay put properly, but not so wide as to bump into things on the right and the left. It doesn't stick forward all the way so that there is space for your hands, and so that the entire unit can angle forward a bit more if you want (including having the front edge actually come all the way down and touch your lap while you lie back on the couch!) - The lip that prevents the laptop from sliding off is tall enough to support your laptop, but smooth and unobtrusive and only fills up the middle section in order to avoid interfering at the sides. - The rubber pieces on the top surface are unobtrusive, feel good, and have never peeled off for me even after constant use for months on end, and they keep the laptop from sliding 100%. - The rubber feet on the bottom work - There is a convenient finger grip on the lip so that even with the laptop pressing down against the lip and covering the entire top face of the unit, you can still run your finger along the lip and find the center point easily so you know where the center of the unit is to pick up either your laptop or the unit with the right balance. - There's also a convenient finger-sized, but smooth, hole in the center of the top face and enough space underneath so that you can swoop your hand under, locate the underside hole by feel, and then use your finger in the hole and your hand to lift the entire unit up without risk of grabbing it or lifting it in the wrong place. - The entire thing is nicely weighted. - Finally, most importantly, the angle of the keyboard is perfect. At first, I thought that the lack of adjustable angle would be bad. But the fact is that the angle and height is already perfect for a table top, and when it's on your lap so that you might want a bit of a different angle, the base is set back enough and just small enough that you can easily and naturally shift its forward/backward angle right on your lap (especially if you use a small buckwheat cushion or laptop tray such as the Grifiti tray, which I use all the time). The best laptop riser I've ever used, bar none. Really helps work comfortably and easily. A solid piece of work. Five stars.

Looks great, sturdy, perfect height, exactly what you want and expect
This is my second mStand by Rain Design. I previously owned a Macbook Pro (13"), then I purchased an iMac and sold my Macbook Pro and mStand along with it. However, I recently went back to a Macbook Pro (15") and had to purchase another mStand. It works perfect for all size Macbook Pros. The extra weight of the 15" does not cause any flexing in the mStand. It is pretty sturdy, however, if you are not using an external keyboard, you will notice some bouncing/shaking as you type. However, the purpose of this stand is to use it with an external keyboard most of the time. The cable management hole in the back will fit plenty of cables and connectors (including a standard DVI cable). There is a plastic ring inside the hole that acts as a grommet, so you do not have to worry about your cables resting against a sharp edge. The space under the laptop is enough for a keyboard (I keep an external Blu Ray drive under since my MBP doesn't have an internal drive). They advertise that the aluminum acts as a heat sink to keep your laptop cooler. I am not sure if this is true. There are rubber feet on the stand (as you can see in the picture) that prevents direct metal to metal contact. While the feet are not too high, I am not sure if that gap between laptop and stand is small enough to allow the stand to act as a heat sink or not. According to iStat, all of my temperatures remain under 30C during normal use. Even if I am watching a video and my dedicated graphics card kicks in, it stays around 37C. When I play a game, I have not had it go over 70C. So it operates within normal/safe temperature ranges. I had this laptop on a laptop cooling pad I had laying around before I ordered this stand, and the temperatures are about the same. The height is perfect. With the height of my desk and chair, it sets the top of the screen to my eye level, which is much more ergonomic than if the laptop was on the desk directly. It also puts it at about the height of my external monitor, so when I am using both monitors it is easier to look from one to the other. I am not sure what more I can say about this stand. It looks amazing, it serves its purpose. I think the best review I could give is the fact that I liked it enough that I bought it a second time when I went back to using a laptop exclusively. If you are using this for work and are constantly spinning your laptop around, then they do sell a swivel version. This one does not swivel well as there are rubber feet on the bottom of the stand between it and the desk, and you wouldn't want to destroy those by trying to swivel this model.

VERY HAPPY WITH MY DECISION TO BUY THIS STAND!!
I did my research on buying a stand for at least 2 weeks before making a decision. And, I have to say, I'm VERY happy that I purchased the mStand Laptop Stand. This solid stand works perfectly with my 15" brand new MacBookPro. It holds it securely in place, is well-made, and I can even carry the stand AND the laptop around from floor to floor together (thanks to that hole in the back of the stand) depending on where I want to use both! (Naturally, you have to be careful but I've done this often with no problems). It also looks great with the lapbook as it matches and is just a sleek, modern design -- they go together well, like a hand in a glove! I will be using this for my business and for personal use. So far, I'm loving it and have no complaints. I considered the swivel stand, but being the klutz that I am, I feared I'd hit the swivel and knock over a cup of coffee or create some other disaster. Also, I read reviews regarding the swivel option and many said that it turns VERY easily. Again, for someone like me, that's not a risk I'm willing to take, although for some, less klutzy people and for those who do not work alone, as I do, it could work - for sharing what is on the screen. I like the fact that the stand is VERY sturdy. Your laptop will NOT slip off at all. Right now, I have this on my bed and I'm even typing directly onto my laptop. (the swivel would NOT be a good option for that at all). I do have a wireless keyboard and mouse for my work, but for occasionally typing right onto it, it's perfect! After scouring the internet and reading MANY reviews, I have to say I am VERY happy with my decision and would highly recommend it as a safe method of securely raising your laptop to a better height for viewing and working on, either professionally or personally. Although the height is not adjustable, you can always adjust your seat if it's not at a perfect height or put the stand on something solid, like a large thick book to give it an extra 1 to 2 inches, if needed. When it is sitting on a standard table or desk height, the height works fine for me and I'm 5'5" tall. (This is as opposed to if you're sitting on a bed --- which in this case, I put the stand on a very thick large hardback book). As usual, Amazon delivered it to my eagerly waiting self in a timely manner. It was packed up well and a joy to open and use! Highly recommended!

very simple, but won't let you down.
Summary: This is such a simple product that you might be wondering why my review is so long. The fact is I love getting products that work reliably and do their job, no matter how simple they are, and I love praising good products. The only drawback of this laptop stand is that it's not adjustable. And no, I don't work for Rain Design and I paid for this with money. Build Quality (10/10): This is made of solid aluminum. No plastic. It just feels really premium, and I'm sure it will last forever. I would probably need a sledgehammer to damage this in any way. Appearance (10/10): This thing just looks cool. It keeps your laptop at a healthy height for viewing the screen, and It especially looks good with MacBooks, and any laptops made of aluminum really. I have a giant Dell Inspiron made of aluminum and black plastic, and my roommate has a MacBook pro, and they both look great on the stand. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to make their desk look cleaner, cooler, and more ergonomic. Functionality (9/10): The only reason it's not a 10 is because it's not adjustable. However, given the simplistic nature of this product, I don't really mind. In my tests it cooled down my laptop fairly effectively. The hole in the back helps with cable management. There's some space under where the laptop goes that works well for storing small speakers, or anything you don't want to see on your desk. Any size laptop is completely stable when sitting on this stand, and the stand is completely stable on any surface. Like I said earlier, laptops sit at a healthy height on most desks. I usually just throw my laptop on the stand when I get home, instead of having it sit awkwardly on my desk, getting in the way of papers. Overall, I have really nothing bad to say about this stand. It's a little expensive, but it's worth every penny for the quality and build. If you don't feel the need to get a stand that you can adjust, nothing can really beat this product.
