Super fun microscope
This was much better quality than I expected. It's durable and a great size for small hands. Anything with a light at this point is a hit with our 4 and 5 year olds and this tops them all. Their love of anything nature is extended now that they can see things at a level they didn't know even existed. We started with salt, then hair and soon there wasn't anything that wasn't getting examined. I love seeing how interested they are in ordinary things and how they look up close. We're all really pleased with the magnification level of 200 - 1000x which is amazing! With the age of our little ones, we aren't really using the camera/computer portion (we don't allow commputer time just yet) but testing it, I found that it would probably work best for viewing using a tripod (and there is a tripod connector). This potential adds so much more that can be done in the future for us as the boys grow and means this microscope will be used for a long time. The only thing that would have made this better would have been a carrying case, but honestly, for the money and the amount of fun our kids have been having with this has made it a great value. It'd be a nice gift for your favorite explorer.

Absolutely amazing for the price
As a child of the 80's, the fact that this product even exists is amazing... and the fact that it is only $30 is nearly unfathomable. Nothing shows how far tech has come as clearly as devices made for children. When this came my kids were super excited, but I had to try it out first. Obviously it's just a macro camera, but man, is it fun to play around with. I went out and found a beetle and we had a great time zooming in on it and getting an up close look. The magnification is indeed impressive. As with any macro camera, it can be a bit tricky getting it to focus just right, but when it does it is great. The fact that it's in a kid friendly form is just wonderful and would make this an excellent gift.
