Self-watering pots help but there are still aspects to keeping a plant happy other than just adding water. This nifty pot not only is cute with fun animations on a large bright screen, but also really helps with keeping your leafy friend happy. It is completely self-contained with a reservoir for water that lasts for weeks and a built-in battery that keeps things working and connected while moving the pot or during power outages. There are built-in sensors for light level, room temperature and humidity, reservoir water level and soil moisture level. Each of these sensors contributes to the overall picture of your plant’s health and you’ll get on-screen and in-app notifications when any need your attention. The pot has WiFi and a free app to give you a remote window into how things are going plus it shows you trends over time and makes recommendations for anything that needs adjusting. Everything was super easy to set up with helpful videos available for everything. Once you get the pot set up in the app, you tell it what type of plant you’re going to put in it and then it can modify things to meet that specific plant’s needs. BTW, the built-in battery is not really meant for long-term use so it’s best to keep the pot plugged in via a USB cable and power adapter (both supplied). The pot itself is quite small so only the tiniest of plants will comfortably fit. I transplanted my new friend into the supplied pot using some fresh soil. Then I topped it with the white stones provided to keep a clean look, but colorful stones are also included if you want a pop of color. I keep this pot on the vanity in my bathroom and installed a small LED plant light above it (not included). The pot and the plant inside seem to be very happy as I’ve noticed new growth and gotten no complaints from the pot. There are 3 touch sensors; one on the front and one on either side. The side ones can be used to “tickle” the animation when they are on-screen, or to scroll through screens when not showing the fun animations. Aside from showing details like light and water levels, you can have the screen display useful stuff like the current time, date and weather since the pot is connected to the internet. There is also a Pomodoro timer if you choose to put the pot on your work desk, but I don’t really use this feature. When it’s time to refill the water reservoir, you’ll need to remove the plant pot, but when you do, the screen shows an animation of the water level so you’ll know how much to fill… very cool. One other nice thing is that the pot comes in a plastic box that might seem like overkill for packaging. But.. that box transforms into a self-watering planter as well! Insert the larger of the two provided white water wicks into the lid, invert it and put it on the bottom section of the packaging which becomes the water reservoir. This second planter can hold a larger plant but of course is just a planter with no smarts. I absolutely love this little pot and my leafy friend seems to as well! We're loving this cute little planter! This was a snap to set up with bluetooth, and also connected to our household internet (we have several bands on the router, 7G 6E, 5SG and 2.4G. It asks for 2.4G. Most every home router has a 2.4 G band for household gadgets or slower speed phones). It worked quickly and flawlessly. Great features! The planter itself will tell you about the conditions where you put it. It measures light around it, the water supply, the hydration of the soil- and in the app, there are hundreds of plants to look up to customize the plant's needs properly. The expressions on "Ivy's" face (varying emojis) will tell you if it needs more light, more water, a recharge, is too hot or too cold... and even an expression to tell you it's "lonely"... which is probably a good cue to take a look at your plant or just pay a bit more attention to it. That lonely face doesn't turn up often if all is well, but an occasional cue to take a look at it is helpful to keep the plant in tip-top shape. Ivy does the most work automatically. Other than that, it has some fun looks, as if it is reading and such. Very cute. I got this for my daughter that always complains that she "kills" every plant. So far, Ivy has been working with her on her first success, and she loves having a nice succulent plant on her bedroom sill. I think I'm going to grab another for my living room, just because it's low maintenance and just so darn cute. Recommended!
