Description
- Stop squirrels — for real. Truly squirrel-proof: The weight of an adult squirrel automatically closes the shroud, denying access to seed. - Save your seed (and your money). Pays for itself: Squirrels can’t steal your wild bird seed anymore. Over time, this means big savings — enough to pay for the feeder itself. - Chew-proof. All exposed parts are made with chew-proof materials - Tool-free design: Every component is easy to take apart by hand — no tools required for cleaning or assembly. - Fresh seed = more birds. Seed ventilation system: Our patented design keeps seed fresh longer, attracting more wild birds to your feeder. - Perfect for perching and clinging birds. Versatile design: Perches suit small perching birds, and the shroud gives clingers like woodpeckers and nuthatches a secure surface too. - Weight Adjustable: Patented weight adjustable spring mechanism controls how much weight the shroud will support allowing the birds to feed. Any additional weight will activate the closing mechanism. - Real support when you need it. Lifetime care: We stand behind our products. Call us — a real person will answer the phone and gladly help you. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST (except holidays).

Customer reviews

Wow. Wish I bought it earlier.
REMINDER: If you’re new to having bird feeders, CLEAN feeders every two weeks and don’t mix older seed with new to avoid feeding rancid seed or food that’s come in contact with feces which can cause parasitic conditions and avian conjunctivitis and spread via feeders also making birds more susceptible to predation and starvation. If you see a bird with abnormal eyes or body size take down feeders, throw away seed, wash feeder thoroughly, wait a week before putting back up. 2nd UPDATE: Things i’ve learned with adding the twig perch; the extra perch makes it easier for mourning doves to sit on feeders, I adjusted the weight so the ports closed, will see if that keeps them off. I love seeing birds hop around the added perch and they regularly use it to crack seeds or face outwards on lookout before hopping back toward the feeder for more. 1st UPDATE: The feeder so nice, I purchased it twice - or rather I was so impressed with this feeder i also purchased the Standard size, and frankly, if the Standard were the first feeder i ever had I probably never would have sought out any others. There is a decent size difference between the Standard and Legacy but both are decently sized. I’ve noticed birds using the ‘twig ring’ to help break seed/nut shells too as you can see in the video. Cardinal approved though he hates being spied on so I’ve proof they visit, but can’t tell you how often. Squirrels have seen me at the window and behave so I’ve yet to see the squirrel proofing. I wish it didn’t swivel/spin so easily but the birds get used to it and i gather it helps shake squirrels off. Original review: Feels so much larger in real life than i anticipated. Pretty soon after deciding to ever get a bird feeder i had to abandon the cute wooden house style ones - very charming but very easy for squirrels to feed from. If it came in black, I probably would have bought it earlier - but i’m honestly much happier with the green anyway. I’ve gone through 6 other bird feeders trying to find something that would keep the squirrels at bay but good for birds and still look good. Out of the box i was really impressed by the quality of this feeder and ease of use. There are three seed compartment dividers inside the plastic tube that i wasn’t expecting but very much appreciate. I like having blue jays visit too so happy that you can adjust it and the instructions make it super clear/easy. Hopefully not the mourning doves though. But I’ve noticed that cardinals prefer hopper styles feeders so I cut two flexible twigs from a tree and used grocery bag twists to make a 360 degree perch. Loved it so much i had to write a review now but will update with any news.

Squirrel Busters are effective overall and Legacy is very easy to clean...
The Legacy is my 4th Squirrel Buster purchase. (2) Standards (one as a gift), (1) Plus, and now (1) Legacy. These are excellent anti-squirrel bird feeders. Squirrels may manage to reach them, but they're always shut out. On the Legacy model the feeder tube can be unscrewed by hand from the feeding base. This is a MAJOR convenience for cleaning purposes. No dealing with unscrewing the 3 screws connecting the feeder tube and base like on the Standard model. Highly recommend any of these feeders. Have had no mechanical failures to speak of on any model, ever. For sure I thought the ring or perches would have bent or broken by now for some reason, but nope, all still going strong. A wide variety of songbirds hang out on these all day. As others have said in reviews, large feed like fruit and nut does not do well in the standard model. It gets stuck. (Raisins, I'm looking at you!). Large feed does great in the Plus Model. Not much ever gets stuck in the Plus, and woodpeckers go nuts for that feeder. (See what I did there) Purchase the Plus Weatherguard as well. Before, rain would get in and create an all around muck and mold and then it'd get clogged. Once the Weatherguard was added it stays dry and doesn't mold up. Totally worth it. Small feed like sunflower and saffron does great in the standard. Nobody passes that feeder by. The Legacy just went into circulation this afternoon, replacing an old standard Cardinal Bird Feeder filled with sunflower hearts - the preferred meal here and great squirrel attractor. In fact, a crash of a squirrel biting it just happened, fantastic! In weighing the pros and cons, I realize the Legacy beats the pants off my current feeder for a variety of reasons. Higher volume, no rainwater molding, no nasty tray to clean, and oh yeah, squirrel proof. I did use other reviewers idea and attached a perch of my own using a simple wooden dowel and wire string. If you need a squirrel-proof feeder, you're making a good choice with this brand. I hadn't realized they have a pretty good guarantee too. Never needed it so never knew. Happy Birding!

Great feeder, even better customer service
This is a great feeder. It's well designed and well made. And the customer service from Brome is fantastic. Whether you can achieve true squirrel-proof status depends on several factors. My feeders are located close enough to the house--for viewing and within window-strike safety guidelines--that my very determined squirrels can jump to the feeder pole and do some crazy gymnastics where part of their weight is supported elsewhere so it doesn't fully trigger the feeder's closing mechanism. But that's not a fault of the feeder. If I had the feeding station pole located further from the house, where there was no jumping-off platform and no place to cling to other than the feeder itself, I think it could be truly squirrel proof. As it is, my extremely determined squirrels did manage to knock it off the hook a few times (Brome sells a hook anchor for that and I intend to get one). That dislodged one of the perches and I couldn't find it in the flowerbed. I called customer service fully expecting to buy a spare part, since it wasn't the fault of the feeder or a product flaw. Instead, they sent me TWO replacement perches, no charge. That alone means I'm willing to buy more of their products.

It really does work
Thud! That is is sound of a heavy squirrel falling off the feeder and hitting the porch. What a nice sound. I use Kaytee Nut & Fruit seed in the feeder with no issues. There are three internal seed storage channels and one channel always empties first, but does not bother the birds. It is easy to clean. The feeder comes with a nice fold-out with squirrel and various bird weights. I played with the adjustable spring tension, but find the original factory setting is just fine for song and woodpecker birds. My Google Pixel 9 Pro (at about 9 ounces) placed on one landing bracket lowers the outer tube and shields the feeding ports. Cardinals can weigh up to 4 ounces each, so a male and female landing at the same time might require a tension adjustment (not happened yet).
