Works!
The short version: It works. The squirrels have tried it but don't hang out on it for long, and haven't been able to get seeds out of it. The longer version: I have a squirrel problem. We had one, dubbed Fat Chuck, who was the biggest squirrel we've ever seen, and who got into the house a few times through a hole in the siding. I don't know that he ever bothered with the old bird feeder, he's just indicative of the overall problem. Last summer I also had a message from my mom that there might be a squirrel in the house again, and to be careful when coming out of my room; I found THREE adolescent squirrels frantically banging around the first floor, and managed to get them all out through various exit points, plus a fourth that had somehow drowned in a downstairs toilet. The three are definitely still hanging around, plus a couple of months ago there was another trio trying to muscle in for a while. Point is, lots of squirrels. My old feeder was one of the ones with the metal cage that drops down over the feeder holes when a squirrel is hanging on it, but the plastic of the feeder had gotten brittle and the squirrels had actually chewed a bunch of it away so that there was still a wide-open hole even with the cage down. I finally tried blocking that with a folded piece of aluminum; the mongrels actually chewed parts of it away and otherwise shoved it down where it wasn't an issue anymore. I caved and bought this new feeder and I've seen a squirrel on it a time or two but they don't like the springy bit and dismount pretty quickly. Because the part that the birds interact with is metal, I expect this feeder to last a pretty long time, and the plastic is protected by the spring as well. The perches are flimsier than the old feeder, but the birds adapted quickly, and even the downy woodpeckers came back (they hang on the bottom edge of the feeder and stick their beaks in through the perches). I'm going through way less seed now, having to refill every few days or up to a week instead of every single day, and I no longer have to open the door and yell at the squirrels to get off the feeder. This one should be way easier to clean, too; I'd never really cleaned the old one properly because there wasn't an easy way to take it apart.

Great Feeder/No Squirrels
Finally a squirrel proof feeder!!! This is a great bird feeder and believe me we have tried several. We have many birds and squirrels and feed both but it seems the Squirrels are never satisfied. Not we feed them their corn in their stand and spread alittle food on the ground as we did before. They try and try to get to the food in this new feeder but can’t do it. Our feeder is hung from a tree by a small chain . We do have a baffel which we put about the feeder. I think we have finally WON! It’s a riot watching them try but no luck. It’s been 2 weeks no luck . I’ll report back. The birds eat and birds like pigeons close the feeder . My woodpecker and blue jay eat. I highly recommend this feeder.

Nice metal feeder. No plastic openings for larger animals to destroy. Would be nice if it was a bit larger to hold more seed but suffices. Very easy to add seed and birds seem to like it just fine. Would buy again.
