credo valga la pena fare una piccola premessa: sono tornato al vinile dopo più di trent'anni ed è stato emozionante e il punto è principalmente questo cioè l'emozione che dà un prodotto del genere: nel valutare un giradischi non credo possa bastare il freddo esame della qualità sonora ma va considerato tutto il mondo di ritualità che si porta dietro e che, per gli amanti del vinile, fa parte del piacere dell'ascolto. Detto ciò questo giradischi procura emozioni già al momento dell'apertura dell'imballo perché si ha davanti un oggetto fatto incredibilmente bene e discretamente pesante. La fase dell'assemblaggio dei vari pezzi è piuttosto semplice; solo per la giusta calibrazione della testina, per chi come me non ne vedeva una dalla fine degli anni ottanta, si può avere qualche piccola difficoltà perché le istruzioni non sono chiarissime ma si risolve tutto con qualche tutorial su internet che spiega come fare e alla fine in pochi minuti avrete tutto pronto compreso il bel coperchio trasparente con marchietto technics al centro. Il giradischi ha una tastiera di comando con il tasto accensione/spegnimento, la regolazione 33/45 giri, il pulsante per far partire il piatto e per fermarlo e quello del Bluetooth. Parte con immediatezza, gira senza nessun rumore percepibile e si ferma quasi istantaneamente. La testina è una audio Technica at vm95c, praticamente la base della serie atvm95. Ho letto varie critiche su questa testina ma mi sembra, per quello che costa, che faccia benissimo il suo dovere e non sento, per ora, la necessità di upgrade che forse farò ma passando a una Ortofon 2m visto che Technics monta le at vm95c su questo modello e sul sl 100 ceg mentre sul più costoso sl 1500 c monta per l'appunto una Ortofon 2m red. La riproduzione dei vinili è ottima è per chi non vuole prendere un amplificatore è possibile usare il suo prephono e abbinarlo a delle casse attive; io ho uno yamha as 301, il modello entry level della serie, che abbinato a delle casse indiana line dà buone soddisfazioni e mi fa capire che il suono già molto buono può essere molto migliorato con un impianto di miglior qualità. Dopo tanti pregi un piccolo neo: il giradischi, come purtroppo quasi tutti quelli in commercio, non dispone del ritorno automatico del braccio e dello stop a fine disco. Infine il Bluetooth: c'è ma non l'ho ancora provato e non so se lo farò, devo confessare che quando ho preso questo giradischi l'ho fatto perché potevo avere un technics con una meccanica simile a quella del 1500 a un prezzo più basso, comunque è una comodità in più. Per gli amanti del vinile è un giradischi che darà sicuramente soddisfazioni.

This is the turntable you've been looking for

I purchased the sl-50c in terracotta. I didn't purchase the sl-40c from Amazon however it's the same turntable but instead of BT (doesn't belong on a turntable IMO) it has 78 speed select. First off, the terracotta is slick! A very nice burnt orange brown color that pairs well wirh my system and decor The motor is the same coreless direct drive technology found in the higher priced sl-1500c and sl-1200 mk7. It is smooth, quiet and accurate. The tonearm is great, no bearing chatter, it effortlessly glides through each track with ease and no inner groove distortion. The plinth is solid mdf and does a good job at damping any unwanted noise and vibrations. The feet are adjustable and damped, same feet found on the sl-1200 mk7 but are rated for the weight of the sl-50c. Dust cover is excellent and the hinges are sprung and hold position perfectly. The platter is nice and heavy, ribbed underneath to maintain speed stability and prevents vibration, zero wobble. The circuit board is laid out very good. Tonearm wires to rca output are separate and shielded with a metal housing. No cross talk going on here. You get pure music The built-in phono stage is nice if you don't have a dedicated external preamp, I use a schiit mani 2 so I don't use the built in phono stage but it is fine for your MM cartridges. Speaking of cartridges, the sl-50c is paired with a 2m red and the 40c is paired with an at vm95c, both are ok, but to get the full potential out of this turntable you'll want to upgrade the cartridge. The styling, sound and performance is all technics, excellent The modern drive and circuitry in this turntable is really good. I'm coming from a vintage technics sl-1500 that saw better days. This new technics is MUCH better in every way in comparison. If you're looking for a quality direct drive turntable that will out last you in years then this should be on your list. Sure, technics calls it "their entry level" turntable, entry level for technics? Sure, but it is far above any other turntable under 1K out there. This turntable gives you everything you need and nothing you don't. Do DJ style turntables "cool" with the strobe tower , target light and pitch fader? Sure, but as an audiophile do you really "need" those options? That's up to you, but from a former DJ this sl-50c (sl-40c) is everything I want in a turntable. Accurate speed, great sound and excellent build quality.

Stylish premium quality turntable

The build quality feels premium and very solid, playback is smooth and stable, and the sound is clean and detailed. Bluetooth is a great bonus when I want to listen casually, but wired listening really shows how good this turntable is. Setup was straightforward, and the dust cover is a nice touch. Looks stylish!

An Audiophile’s Dream

I went through several, less expensive turntables, and I found they gave me too many issues. I am happy I purchased a high-end turntable, it looks great, sounds amazing, and with meticulous care, will deliver the goods for a long time to come. Beautiful piece of equipment.
