Description
- BUILD 14 REAL WORKING ROBOTS — Construct an obstacle-avoiding robot, a four-legged bionic bot, a robotic arm with 3 degrees of freedom, a conveyor belt, a delivery truck, an automatic gate, a drummer bot, a smart fan, a digital safe, and more. Hundreds of durable, reusable snap-together parts let kids design their own robots once they've mastered the projects. - INCLUDES BBC micro:bit V2 (a $20 value) — The award-winning micro:bit acts as your robot's brain, with a built-in accelerometer, magnetometer, microphone, light sensor, temperature sensor, touch sensor, LED matrix, and speaker. Also includes a smart controller with rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion batteries, an ultrasonic sensor, two direct-drive motors, and a 180° servo motor. - CODE THREE WAYS WITH MAKECODE — Program your robots in Microsoft MakeCode using drag-and-drop blocks for beginners, then level up to Python and JavaScript — the same languages used in the tech industry. MakeCode is free, web-based, and works on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Linux, iOS, and Android. No software to install. - TEACHES REAL ENGINEERING CONCEPTS — Kids learn sequential programming, variables, loops, if/then logic, functions, gear ratios, torque, worm drives, sensors, Boolean logic, and the engineering design process. Projects connect to real-world applications like Mars rovers, factory automation, robotic arms in space, and accessible medical devices. - CLASSROOM-READY CURRICULUM AVAILABLE FREE ONLINE — A 32-page full-color illustrated manual gets you started, and the companion website adds step-by-step assembly videos, coding walkthroughs, downloadable code files, and a 12-lesson teacher's curriculum aligned to NGSS, ISTE, STEL, and Common Core standards. Compatible with LEGO via the included universal connectors.

Awesome STEM kit for young robotics enthusiasts
I am super impressed with this Thames & Kosmos Robotics Workshop kit. It's a fantastic introduction to robotics and coding for kids (and adults like me who love to learn alongside them). The kit includes durable, reusable building pieces and various sensors, allowing you to construct unique robots. The star of the show is the micro:bit, a tiny computer that serves as an excellent first microcontroller for budding programmers. What I really love is the use of the MakeCode platform for programming. It's accessible on any device through a web app, making it easy to use whether you're at home or in a classroom setting. The curriculum does a great job of introducing kids to real-world coding languages like Python and JavaScript. The educational value here is outstanding. It's not just about building cool robots (though that part is awesome) - it's a comprehensive introduction to programming concepts, problem-solving, and creative thinking. While the price point might seem high at first glance, the quality of the materials, the depth of the curriculum, and the potential for ongoing learning and experimentation make it worth the investment for serious young engineers or makers. Overall, this kit has become a favorite in our household. It's engaging, educational, and provides hours of creative fun. Highly recommended for any family or classroom looking to dive into the world of robotics and coding.

Great kit that will keep your child busy for months!
This kit is great for intermediate to advanced learners. You've got physical building of the kit, and the programming side as well. There's so many building options available that they won't get bored. You will need a laptop to program the kit for each of the projects. They provide a scan code to use to download the code for each project. I'd advise downloading all the project code into local directories so that you'll have them available at the ready when needed. I can't say enough good things about this kit, other than it will take a parent and child with the skill set to make it work. Without downloading the code, it won't do anything. We've had it for several months and still enjoying it regularly. I highly recommend it!

My son loves this awesome kit!
What an awesome kit from Thames and Kosmos! My 13 year old son has been very interested in coding and robotics for as long as I can remember, so I knew this set would be a perfect gift for him. My son was super excited and instantly dug into the box. It's easy enough for him to figure out and do on his own, but hard enough to be a challenge. I love seeing him work with this kit, it amazes me how smart he is. He says it has been a lot of fun and makes him want even more kits like this one to do in the future. It came packaged well and everything was in working order, and all pieces were there. It's pretty pricey, but worth it to gift a child who has a real interest in Robotics. Very satisfied!

The grandkids love this!
I would have loved to have something like this when I was younger, too. Alas, we had Lincoln Logs and Erector sets. I was expecting out teen grandson to be very into this, but did not expect that his older sister would lobe it even more. They spent all Christmas Day putting it together and programming it. It is an amazing tool to gently push them toward a more engineering/technical career path and they love it.
