Customer reviews

Wow. This might be one of the only cookbooks I’ll ever need.
I just got this today and it is a treasure. I seriously cannot believe the amount of information in this book. It’s huge and it weighs a ton. And there are so many beautiful photos and loads of information to look at and read. I’m amazed! I’m mid-50s, a home cook. Let’s just say that I still have hurdles to overcome regarding cooking, I wasn’t role-modeled correctly and have some anxiety issues when it comes to culinary skills. I always had a feeling that cooking was a chore and not a pleasant one, and unfortunately it shows in my end product. Sometimes cooking IS a chore (when the work of decision, shopping, prepping, cooking and cleaning mainly falls on one person, I mean) or I’m feeling out of sorts and motivation is low, but we’re talking every meal was an absolute struggle. I’m not going to blame anymore, I’m taking the reins, and u-turning that pointer finger that I point at someone else to blame and pointing it right back at ME. I can turn out a well-rounded dinner but it’s never something that happens organically…it’s hit-or-miss due to lack of technique or mt nerves. So I still have much to learn. But it’s never too late! I look forward to trying some of the recipes out soon! The only issue I noticed is that there’s a QR code for two months of culinary info and lessons offered…when I tried to get the two month trial it was a few weeks. I’m going to contact the 1-800 number to ask what happened to that, because that’s quite a difference, and Cook’s should honor what they offered on the book.

A wealth of knowledge
I purchased the book for a work friend who has just gotten married and is learning to cook and I think I did very well. I only had a little while to leaf through, but even though I would consider myself quite a skilled chef, I still learned many things from the brief time I spent with it. I was a little surprised by the lay out at first, but in time it made complete sense. The book is laid out in such a way that it starts with the basics and then offers multiple recipes that encourage you to build on your skills and confidence. My friend is very happy with the book and I am sure she will be quite accomplished in the kitchen by their 5th Anniversary, as for myself, I am thinking of ordering the "Advanced Skills" book for myself.

Masterclass TEXTBOOK for ambitious cooks.
What a wonderful cooking mentoring book. I was never able to attend culinary school, so taking the time to go through the methodically and try recipes as you read is a real education. People don't know how much they can thrive and grow their skill set by going through high-caliber mentoring books like this. This is a Masterclass. What an honor to learn from Chef Lan Lam!! It feels like I'm getting the education I always craved.

Very helpful book to learn how to cook
Very happy with this book Over a thousand pages Very informative Skills and recipes well explained, clear photos and writing that explains what and how to do the skill One draw back is the book is pretty heavy and may be hard to handle while cooking. Right now I've used my phone to photograph the recipe I'm working on
