recipes that work
Now that Jim and I are empty nesters I have been getting into cooking for one or two. I also wanted to up my own lunch game, so tired of frozen meals and lunch meat. One dish meals give me a chance to have a delicious meal with real food. I have followed Joanie's blog for awhile and made several of her recipes, so I pre-ordered the ultimate cooking for one cookbook. I am older and the cookbooks I grew up with often didn't have a lot of pictures. It is not something that bothers me at all, but I know for some people it's an issue. There are some lovely yummy looking pictures in here, but a lot of recipes don't have pictures. The recipes are laid out with the ingredient list, then the easy to follow clear directions. As an experienced cook and baker, when I first started the smaller batch kitchen, I thought scaling down would be a breeze. not so much, baking times, proportions, and especially baking can be a challenge. I like having it done for me. The recipes are tasty, the crawfish pasta is wonderful. I have gone through and made notes so If I need two tablespoons onion in one recipe, I've made note of other recipes where I can use the rest of the onion. Most veg, like onion, also freeze well. I can chop up and entire onion, put tablespoons in a little bit of cling wrap, put all the little bundles in a freezer bag, and they work fine. Bell peppers also freeze very well, as do herbs. I get the squeeze bottles of tomato paste. Sweet and savory pork lettuce wraps, although I admit I used ground chicken, were delicious and a perfectly tasty meal. Garlic sesame green beans were delicious, though, after the first time I ended up having to double the recipe as Jim wanted some too! I was excited to see a recipe for butter chicken. the author does not shy away from flavors and this was so good, I couldn't believe I could do a butter chicken recipe for one! small batch chocolate dipped shortbread. This did not turn out as planned. I made the shortbread. I let it cool. Was going to make the chocolate but made the mistake of pinching off a bit of one of the cookies and ate it. Well, let me tell you, the chocolate never got made, the shortbread was so tasty and buttery and perfect I simply ate it as is. I have quite a few one or two dish cookbooks. and I have to admit, I have givenaway some also. Ultimate cooking for one will be one I go to again and again. The ingredients are easy to source, the directions easy to follow, the results are satisfying and so tasty.

love a hard copy recipe, so the webpage updates are just the cherry on top.
so much to try. purchased this in 2020. referring to it frequently. love the alfredo sauce. and bake several of the muffin recipes in ramekins. over time we have purchased small pots, and pans, and remekins and weck storage jars. That has been a big help, thanks for the idea. i’ve tested out many of the dessert recipes because they are wonderful for just the two of us, and no big leftovers to tempt us into overindulging. the really great thing is that it is a continuing journey via the website. i browse through every now and then to discover new recipes using the hubs as a guinea pig, (he doesn’t mind). a while back i discovered the small loaf french bread recipe. somehow never quite managed to slip it into the schedule until yesterday. the ratios are perfect! such an easy recipe. low gluten jovial einkorn flour came out of the cabinet and a couple of hours later i had a new loaf sitting on the cooling rack…admittedly it did not make it through the evening. after running errands we came home and ate chicken leftovers over toasted bread slices and then butter and jam on the remainder of the loaf for dessert. the taste is spot on. and i plan to practice my shaping techniques more later in the week. two loaves in one week, what a lovely recipe to make and not have to worry about what to do after we eat our portion. fresh homemade french bread! as many others have commented, i also, have several cookbooks specific to cooking for one or two. each one has had a couple or a few recipes that i have used and appreciated. One dish kitchen surpasses them all. and her youtube videos are fun to watch and helpful. Thank you Joanie.

Perfect cookery book for one
This book had lots of tasty and easy recipes, using common ingredients. I have been enjoying a variety of breakfasts other than the usual cereal and milk. It is possible to half a recipe from other recipes but that still leaves too much in the way of leftovers. My only complaint is finding the smaller dishes. I did pay a small fortune for the baking dish but have been unable to find 8 oz ramekins. Ramekins that are supposed to be 8 oz turn out to be 6 or 7 ounces.

Nice cookbook for one
This is a great cookbook with size and proportions very nice for one person. It has some color photos but not a whole lot really. My preference would be a color photo for every recipe, but that makes a much more expensive book. The price on this one was good. Only one recipe was a no-go: the mashed potatoes. Two great recipes were the BBQ chicken drumsticks with carrots and honey roasted carrots. That's all I know so far as I've only had a short time.
